Azeri delegation in Estonia to study customs system improvement

A 15-member Azerbaijani delegation comprised of the representatives of the State Customs Committee, the Presidents Apparat, the Cabinet of Ministers, the Justice Ministry, UNDP is on a working visit to Estonia. The UNDP told Trend Asgar Abdullayev, the deputy head of the State Customs Committee, heads the delegation.

The key objective of the visit which will last by 14 August as part of a project on improvement of the Customs system in Azerbaijan, is to study the experience of the European Unions Customs Code. During the visit the delegation will visit Muuga port with respect to get familiar with the advanced procedures. They will hold meetings with the official of the Taxes and Customs Departments, including the General Director of the Department.

The European Commission funded project, which is implemented by UNDP was launched in January 2006. The key objective of the project with the budget of 900,000 euros is to render assistance to State Customs Committee in the improvement of the legislative basis of the customs sector, its relevance to the world standards, in particular, the Customs Code, improvement and realization of the strategy on development of information technologies of the State Customs Committee.
