Preparation of feasibility study of construction project of Oguz-Gabala-Baku water pipe is under completion stage

Preparation of the feasibility study of project for the construction of Oguz-Gabala-Baku water pipe in under completion process, Arif Iskandarov, the head of the ecology and nature protection policy department of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan, told, Trendreports.

According to him, at the moment the specialists of the same ministry implement geological-investigations measures and assessment of the resources in the territory of Oguz-Gabala zone. The water in volume of 3 cubic meters (cm) per second will be directed to Baku through the water pipe of 264 km in length and 2 m in diameter. For this purpose, it is intended to drill nearly 100 artesian wells.

Exploitation reserve of the underground water in this region forms more than 15 cm/second.

The route will continue from water storage to the territory of Oguz-Gabala and pass through the territory of Charkhana-Goychay-Agsu-Udulu. The water pipe will equal 280 km in length. The construction works on the water pipe are planned to be started by the end of the year and given into exploitation in 2008.

The order on the construction of water pipe in zone of Oguz-Gabala to upgrade water supply of Baku city was signed in December 2002 by the former Azerbaijani President Heydar Aliyev. Within the framework of the project, Azersu JSC has carried out works, and the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan has conducted geological investigations to specify water reserves and sources.

On 1 September 2005, during the meeting with president of the country, it was decided to construct the pipe, and an order was issued for the preparation of the feasibility study, which is made by German CES Consulting Engineers.
