ADB, IMF hold workshop under CAREC in Baku

Baku hosted a workshop on 28 September organized by the Asia Development Bank (ADB) and the International Monetary Fund, Trend report. Sonna Schrest, an economist of ADB, and Sena Eken, a member of IMF.

Eken presented a report on trade indices in countries in countries under the Central Asian Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) program, regional integration, trade barriers and presented conclusions and recommendations. Eken underlined that the major barriers are the bans, or obligatory licensing of export and import of definite goods existing in all Central Asian countries. He stressed that the tariffs remain to be a major problem. Frequent and surprising tariffs are observed in Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan and the tariffs increase following the level refinery of goods, she underlined.

According to the economist, the CAREC countries should establish open foreign trade regimes for assistance in the inner-regional and inter-regional trade.
