(autoinsidernews) - Spy photographers have captured an undisguised prototype of the 2008 Ford Escape parked in Detroit. The new Escape sports more truck-like styling than the recently-unveiled 2008 Mercury Mariner. While the new Escape does without Ford's corporate three-bar grille, it borrows a few cues from Ford's new Expedition. Like the Mercury Mariner, the new Escape does away with the current model's cladding, in favor of cleaner bodyside panels. The interior is similar to the 2008 Mercury Mariner, with the Escape doing without some of the high-end trim items to differentiate the two.
The 2008 Escape will be powered by the same four- and six-cylinder engines as the Mariner. Expect the 2008 Ford Escape to have its official unveiling at the Los Angeles Auto Show latter this month, reports Trend.
