(autoinsidernews)- Silicon Valley-based automaker Tesla Motors plans to add a four-door sedan that will be targeted at the BMW 5-Series, according to Pistonheads. The new sedan will be entirely electric, with front mounted motor and batteries, and rear-wheel drive, said Tesla VP Mike Harrigan.
It is unlikely that sedan will be based on a Lotus platform like the Roadster, but the four-door model is more likely to feature lightweight steel construction, with an expected production of 10,000 to 20,000 units annually, reports Trend.
A base model sedan will offer similar power to the 250-hp Roadster, with a range of 200 miles. A more powerful and expensive variant will offer a300 mile range.
The report indicates there will be a higher performance version of the Roadster offered, probably by 2010.
