Baku Hosts Presentation of Project under EU-Azerbaijan Co-operation

A presentation of the third phase of Tacis project Support to Implementation of Agreement on Partnership and Cooperation between the European Union and Azerbaijan, sanctioned on August 2, 2006, was held in Baku on December 1. The term of implementation is 1 year, Trend reports.

Sevinj Hasanova, the Deputy Minister for Economic Development, said during the presentation that Azerbaijan cooperation with the EU has begun since 1991 and is expanding in the cultural, political and economical spheres. Starting from 1992, EU financial assistance to Azerbaijan amounted to в'¬ 400mln.

The project envisages support to 17 different sectors ranging from removal of technical barriers in trade, protection of consumer rights, and analysis of EU directives. The country will receive support to the legislation processes through directives, instruction and training, development of laws and improvement of processes targeting their adjustment.

The Head of the Project Group, Adam Rosever, announced that over the past 9 months a National Program on unification of legislation was worked on. It will be submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers. A 3 year action plan has been designed to adjust the legislation on all 17 spheres. A monitoring system will be established to carry out this program.

Within the framework of the project the assistance will be rendered to 22 ministries and agencies, with respect to achieve goals in the process of entrance to the World Trade Organization.
