Ukraine to Launch Active Ferry Communication with Georgia and Azerbaijan

Ukraine will launch an active ferry communication with Georgia and Azerbaijan via its port Ilyichevsk at the end of 2008 and in the beginning of 2009, said Talat Aliyev, Azerbaijan Ambassador to Ukraine after his meeting with Anatoly Bliznyuk, Chairman of the Council of Donetsk Region, Trend reports referring to Ukrainian media sources.

According to him, a new railway route Turkey-Georgia-Azerbaijan is currently under construction. Goods from China, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and the South-Eastern Asia are expected to be carried to the Georgian Port of Poti via this route. The goods will be sent to the Ukrainian Port of Ilyichevsk, and then to Europe.

Mr. Aliyev said that the construction of railway route Turkey-Georgia-Azerbaijan is expected to be completed till the end of 2008 and the beginning of 2009.
