Next Date of monitoring against bird flu' in Azerbaijan confirmed

The next monitoring date against bird flu' in Azerbaijan has been confirmed. The Azerbaijani Agriculture Ministry's State Veterinary Service informed Trend that the monitoring will be held from 25 - 31 December.

The monitoring is held by a special commission which comprises of specialist from the Ministry of Ecology & Natural Resources, the Ministry of Health, the Institute of Zoology and the Society of Hunters. The monitoring will be held in areas where there is a higher possibility of the birds using that flight path, including the Pirallahi Island, Absheron Peninsular, as well as Davachi, Sa lyan and Lankaran Districts and the national parks along the Caspian Sea coastline.

Furthermore, the specialists of the State Veterinary Services, under the leadership of the Service Deputy Director, Emin Shahbazov, held a monitoring in several regions of Azerbaijan from 8 - 10 December. They observed the flight path of the birds as well as the birds' behavior. The monitoring did not reveal any cases of bird flu'.

The Service has recently taken a resolution on the conduct of monitoring twice a month in connection with the migration of the birds of passage.

Previous monitoring in the Azerbaijani territory did not reveal any signs of the disease. All veterinary border services are undergoing intensive routines to prevent the penetration of the virus into the Country. In addition, the ban on hunting, the sale and use of wild birds, as well as the import of poultry from countries where there has previously been cases of the bird flu' virus, is in force.

Currently the Commission is involved in a monitoring programme which is due to end on 17 December.
