The Baku Metro will receive its first ten metro transit vehicles in May, 2007, a source in the Metro informed Trend today. On the whole, the Metro will buy 25 new carriages. The rest 15 carriages will be delivered to the Metro in the beginning of October, 2007 when the Baku Underground will mark its fortieth anniversary.
According to the representative of the Baku Metro, the metro transit vehicles will be bought from Russia, as it was done previously. The cost of the analogous metro carriages made in other countries reaches some $1,7 вЂ" $1,9 mln.
In 2004 Baku Metro acquired new metro carriages for the last time. Russian Mytischi Carriage-Building Plant made the delivery.
The Baku Metro will bring the total number of its operating carriages up to 225. It will enable to reduce intervals in the metro train traffic, as well as extend the volume of passengers.
