Baku International Sea Port Completes First Stage of Reconstruction of Ferry Terminal

The Baku International Sea Port is expected to complete the first stage of the reconstruction of the ferry terminal till the end of the first quarter, a source in the Port informed Trend. Presently, Azerbaijan company, Azerkorpu is completing the first stage of the reconstruction of the infrastructure in the port.

The Company is engaged in reconstruction of the bridge which serves for goods wagons to be delivered for shipping and unshipping ferries. The Baku Port has granted $3‚21 mln. for these purposes. The funds were presented by the port itself.

After the first stage is completed, the second stage of the reconstruction is expected to be launched. It will include the construction of the second bridge for shipping and unshipping goods wagons.

The reconstruction of the ferry terminal is necessary due to the increase in carrying and shipping loads within TRACECA transport corridor. The reconstruction of the terminal is to extend its capacity up to 8 mln. tons per year.

After the second stage of the reconstruction is complete, coastal facilities and units of the ferry terminal are expected to be reconstructed as well. That will require $2 mln. The implementation of the project will depend on the ports financial potential.
