Volume of Investments Determined to Expand Capacities of Azeralumin in 2007

The second production plant is expected to be put into commission of Azeralumin JSC in Sumgayit in the second half of 2007. Trend has been informed by the State Property Committee, that the production capacity of the Sumgayit Plant will increase from the existing 30.000 tons up to 60.000 ones. $27,5 mln. is expected to be invested with these aims. 861 employees are working in the Plant, however, when new shops open, 500 more jobs will become available. Work on the introducing the technology on producing alumina from alunit, will be presented. Up to date, bauxites have been imported to produce alumina. There are possibilities to produce 80 mln. tons of alunit ore in Azerbaijan. If the project is introduced in Azerbaijan, other countries such as USA, Russia, Iran, China, etc, which have significant alunit fields, will have the opportunity to obtain the patent in Azerbaijan. The main aim to acquire such a technology is to use local raw materials that will allow reducing the prime cost of the production, as well as open new jobs. After the Azerbaijan Government had canceled the contract on the long-term management of Azeralumin JSC with Fondel Metall of the Netherlands, specialists of the Enterprise launched taking complex measures to increase production volumes, ensuring the technological process and uninterrupted operation at the expense of the Joint-Stock Company. The project on the construction of a new aluminum plant with the capacity of 100.000 tons in Ganja City has been prepared. The construction of the forthcoming plant is envisaged at the expense of the Joint-Stock Company own funds. State-of-the-art equipment and technologies will be applied in the new plant which construction has already been launched.
