On January 13, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey started the discussions over realization of the project on construction of the railway Kars-Tbilisi-Akhalkalaki. The Azerbaijan Ambassador to Georgia, Namik Aliyev, informed Trend that the sides intend to make a common conclusion on several questions and initial agreement.
The document will be presented to the governments of the three countries for consideration and approval. The Government of Georgia is expected to approve the agreement for signing. Azerbaijan expressed its readiness to fully finance its share in the project in amount of $200 mln.
During the meeting on 13 October 2006 in Baku, the trilateral working group on the realization of Kars-Akhalkalaki-Baku project considered the project on the framework agreement, obligations of the Georgian side on leading to the section of the construction of the railway and credit agreement between Azerbaijan, Turkey and Georgia. The project is estimated at $422 mln, but taking into consideration the additional infrastructure - $600 mln.
