Azerbaijan Participates in a Meeting of ECO Marine Administrations

Azerbaijani delegation, headed by the Chief of the Marine Inspection Department of Azerbaijan State Marine Administration (ASMA), Vamig Rahimov, participated in a gathering as part of the 3rd meeting of the Marine Organizations of the Economic Co-operation Organization (ECO) member countries in Karachi (Pakistan).

An ECO delegation comprising of delegates from Iran, Afghanistan, Turkey and Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and host Pakistan, visited Port Qasim here on Wednesday for an overview of the modernisation of the Port terminals, establishment of new terminals and the promotion of capacity enhancement, Trend reports.

The working group also included the First Deputy Director-General of Baku International Marine Trade Port, Vahid Aliyev, and Head of Rescue & Towing Works of Crash Rescue Service of Caspian Basin of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, Mammad Allahverdiyev.

The delegation had constructive talks on the issues of modernisation and capacity enhancement with the Chairman of Port Qasim Authority (PQA).

Chairman PQA Vice Admiral M Asad Qureshi informed the delegation that Port Qasim is one of the largest contributors to the national economy of Pakistan and has an impressive growth in all facets of port operation.

Delegates were also informed of the signing of Declaration of Principles between USA and Pakistan on enhancing International Maritime Trade Security under IC3. The integrated Cargo Container Control (ICC), installed at PQA, is expected to be operational by February 2007 and shall be helpful in reducing the cost of exports to the US besides being time efficient.
