Salaries and Pensions in Azerbaijan Will Increase from February 1 Azeri President

The President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, said on January 22 in Baku at the meeting dedicated to the results of 2006 and plans for 2007 that the State Programs realized in Azerbaijan in 2006 achieved their goals, Trend reports with reference to AzTV. The State Head said that the reforms in the sphere of education, health, culture and army establishment in 2006 will continue in 2007. According to him, the average monthly and minimal salaries will be increased and a special attention will be paid to keep the macro-economical stability. He said that the infrastructure projects are strong in all of regions and the large-scale economical development of the country will be ensured. Expressing his attention to the decision of the tariff council on increase of prices for the energy carriers, Aliyev said that increase of prices in the whole world made it necessary to take an adequate step. But the policy of the country is that population should not suffer from the price increase and the social policy will be strengthened. From February 1, the base part of the pension and minimal size of the salary will amount AZN 50. In addition, the salaries of the employees of the organizations financed from the State budget will be increased from February 1, the President said, adding that from February 1, the salaries of all institutions of education, health, culture, social protection, science, sport and other spheres will be increased by 25%.

During the meeting, speeches were made by the Finance Minister, Samir Sharifov, Minister of Economic Development, Heydar Babayev, Taxes Minister, Fazil Mammadov, Minister of Labor and Social Protection, Fizuli Alakparov, Chairman of the State Customs Committee, Aydin Aliyev, Chairman of the State Social Protection Fund, Salim Muslimov and others.
