State Investments in Azerbaijani Economy Rose 3.4 times in 2006 Azerbaijani Finances Minister

A total of 881mln manats was invested in the Azerbaijani economy in 2006, Trend reports. The Azerbaijani Finance Minister Samir Sharifov made this statement to a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers presided over by the Azerbaijani President, Ilham Aliyev, dedicated to the socio-economic results of 2006 and tasks set for 2007. Some 395mln manats was invested at the expense of the State Oil Fund of Azerbaijan (SOFAR) and $480mln at the expense of foreign credits attracted under state guarantee.

Total state investments rose 1.3bln mantas, 3.4 times more than 2005

The Minister said that last year 205.3mln manats was dedicated to at social projects, including 109.4mln manats allocated by SOCAR intended for the improvement of social and living conditions of refugees and internally displaced people.

Some 11.6mln manats of the total funds allocated for the construction and repair of culture and tourism facilities were spent on the repair and reconstruction of the State Drama Theater, the State Opera and Ballet Theater, the Puppet Theater and the Baku Circus.

Some 14.1mln was for the repair and construction of youth and sports facilities. Furthermore, 694mln manats, including 120mln manats out of the SOFAR's funds financed infrastructure projects. Over the past year 162.5mln was allocated to the reconstruction of the road transport infrastructure, which was further allocated to the construction of bridges in the territory of different regions, as well as construction and overhaul of city and rural automobile routes of a length of 800km.
