Azerbaijani & Georgian Experts Co-ordinating Text of a Credit Agreement

The Azerbaijani Transport Ministry informed Trend that on January 24th, experts of Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey will continue co-ordinating the text of the credit agreement on the project of the construction of the railway Tbilisi-Baku-Kars, Trend reports

Work over the agreement will continue for several days. The head of the Azerbaijan State Railway, Arif Asgarov, and the Chief of the Railways, Irakli Ezukbay, had a private meeting relating to this.

According to the representatives of the Ministry, Azerbaijan will present $200 mln credit to Georgia, at an interest rate of 1%. This loan will be paid back from the revenues, with exception of operational expenses (expenses on development, etc.), of the Georgian organization who receives the credit, the same source said.

The project on the building of the transport railway corridor Kars-Akhalkalaki-Tbilisi-Baku includes the construction of the railway line Kars-Akhalkalaki, a distance of 98 km. 68 km of which will be in Turkish territory and 30 km in the territory of Georgia. Reconstruction work is needed on the railway section of Akhalkalaki-Tbilisi. The value of the projects is estimated at $400 mln.
