(autoinsidernews) - Toyota is hard at work on the next-generation Prius hybrid. While the changes between the current version and the next-gen model are not expected to be a dramatic as the last time, the Prius will feature significant tweaks and tweezes. While body of the Prius will look similar to the current model, it will be all-new. Width will grow an inch and it will be an inch shorter. Overall, the vehicle will retain its futuristic aerodynamic profile, reports Trend.

While the look isn't expected to differ much, the big new is under the skin, with a larger 1.8L will deliver better performance. Toyota is not resting on its hybrid laurels and will make improvements to its Hybrid Synergy Drive, which, along with new battery technology are rumored to up city mileage to 80 mpg.

Solar panels for passive battery recharging and plug-in recharging are also being considered.
