Measures in connection with the third anniversary of the implementation of the State Program on Socio-Economic Development of Azerbaijani Regions will be held approximately in mid- February 2007.
Aghajan Ahmadov, the Head of the State Program Secretariat, informed Trend that at present work on the report is underway.
Preliminary data suggests, that over three years some 520,000 new jobs have been created, including 277,000 permanent jobs. Investments were raised in this period in regional development through the Asian Development Bank, the World Bank and the Islamic Development Bank. Along with foreign arrears, major parts of the investments were covered at the expense of the public budget and private capital, he noted.
Moreover, technical assistance was provided for the institutional development of the Secretariat to ensure efficient implementation of the State Program. The assistance was presented by the UN Development Program and the German Organization for Technical Assistance (GTZ).
Last year the IDB allocated a $265,000 grant for supplies to regional offices of the secretariat and consultative aid in the establishment of the database.
