Korea Worked out Recommendations for Azerbaijan for Creating Speed Train to Georgian Border

Korean transport delegation, which had worked out and presented the Transport Ministry of Azerbaijan the recommendations within the project of creation of speed train till Georgian border, plans to make a visit to Baku till the end of February 2007. Taking into consideration the proposals of the Azerbaijan side, they will study the situation with the railway in this route, Trend reports with reference to the Transport Ministry of Azerbaijan.

These experts are involved under the patronage of the Transport Ministry of Korea and Korean Transport Institute, the same source said.

Presently the railway from Baku-Boyuk Kesik to Georgian border works on speed of 30 km/h and in several sections on speed of 160 km/h. Azerbaijan transporters intend to deliver it to 80 km/h in the first stage and gradually to 150 km/h.

The cost of the project will depend on feasibility study. Together with the Korean investigators, Japanese Bank for International Co-operation (JBIC), Itochu Corporation, also holds consultations in this direction. The Corporation works out feasibility study.

Creating speed train is intended within the project on modernization of the railway infrastructure from Baku вЂ" Boyuk Kesik to Georgian border. The Transport Ministry considers that many sections on Azerbaijan railways are in need of improvement. Therefore, finances may be attracted from various sources.
