IMF Interested in Calculation of Important Components at Counting Inflation in Azerbaijan in January, 2007

An IMF (International Monetary Fund) mission headed by Vitaly Kramarenko, the Deputy Director of the Department for Middle East and Middle Asia, got acquainted with the calculation of the index of consumer prices, which was made by the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan.

Trend has been informed in the State Statistics Committee that by clarifying the calculation of the recent advance in prices in calculating the inflation is the key aim of the meeting.

They were convinced that the changes in prices had been taken into account. At the same time, they got acquainted with the program on the calculation of the index of consumer prices in accordance with the IMF methodology. The Fund experts collected all necessary information. Though there have been no any pretensions, they will pledge to address to us if necessary, said the source in the State Statistics Committee.

The next meeting has been fixed to February 21. This meeting is expected to be held at the level of the Head of the IMF mission. Mr. Kramarenko will meet Arif Valiyev, the Chairman of the State Statistics Committee of the Country.

The objective of the visit of the IMF mission, which was commenced on February 14, is to review Article 4 of Agreement On IMF. However, one of the key topics of the forthcoming discussion will be the Azerbaijan Tariff Council decision on increasing the tariffs on energy carriers and public utilities, which was put into force on January 8, 2007. The IMF mission intends to touch all issues concerning the impact that this increase had.
