KfW Ready to Expand Operations in Azerbaijan

The new orientations in the cooperation and the situation with the implementation of projects in Azerbaijan , which are financed by KfW of Germany have been viewed during the meeting held between Heydar Babayev , Azerbaijan 's Economic Development Minister and a Germany delegation headed by Doris Kenny, the Vice-President of KfW in Baku today on February 26.

The German Economic Development and Cooperation Ministry.

Mr. Babayev informed their guests about the macroeconomic situation and economic reforms carried out in the country by stressing that agriculture, infrastructure, small-scale and medium-sized entrepreneurship are the priorities of Azerbaijan 's economic development.

During the meeting, it was noted about the expediency of increasing taking efforts toward reinforcing relations with KfW, as well as expanding the activity of German companies in Azerbaijan . Moreover, perspectives of the development of cooperation, situation with the implementation of projects realized under the financial support of KfW were widely discussed as well.

Azerbaijan and the German Bank are currently carrying out cooperation within the projects on foundation of the Fund for Guaranteeing Credits, system of electric power transmission via AzDRES-Imishli, system of insurance of deposits, reconstruction of housing and communal infrastructure (the Ganja and Shaki Cities water supply systems, programme of an ecoregional environment, etc.

To date, the German Government within KfW has presented credits to Azerbaijan to the sum of €144,2 mln., and €23,8 mln.

During the meeting, the parties exchanged opinions on the continuation of mutual cooperation and expanding KfW's ties with Azerbaijan .

Mrs. Kenny marked the importance of the partnership with Azerbaijan , and expressed readiness to render thorough assistance in reinforcing the Banks' relations with Azerbaijan .

Notably, the visit of the German delegation to Azerbaijan will last to March 2.
