Azerbaijan, Baku / corr. Trend I.Khalilova / The Minister of Economic Development of Azerbaijan, Heydar Babayev, stated on 28 February at the press-conference that the Government of Azerbaijan hopes to finalise negotiations regarding the creation of the garbage reprocessing plant and commence construction by the summer.

According to him, the technical consultant (Finnish "Poyri") attracted by the Ministry will assess the proposals of three companies, Japanese EBARA, Austrian EVN and French CNIM. They have offered to manage the construction of the plant, and the financing will be made with the State's participation.

In addition, proposals of Japanese Mitsubishi, which expressed its interest in investing into the construction, are also considered. The significant fact of its proposals is that it receives gas as a result of processing, the Minister stated. According to him, the Ministry has begun negotiations with one other undisclosed company.

The Company stated its readiness to construct the plant through its own finance, but requires a guarantee to maintain the present tariffs for the electric power, which will be delivered to the plant.

"Economically this project is very urgent for Azerbaijan, and therefore the Government is interested in accelerating its decision because the construction work will take 2 years," Babayev said.

According to the official data, annually 775,000 tons of domestic wastes are collected in and out Baku.
