Azerbaijani Government to Tighten Control Over Payments Made by Public Utilities and Housing Sector Enterprises

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend , corr I. Khalilova/ IFC (International Monetary Fund) has repetadly recommended to the Azerbaijani Government to increase the prices on energy carriers and tarifs on public utilities within its different programmes, including within the one intended for the fight with the poverty and economic development (PRGF).

Vitaly Kramarenko, the Deputy IMF Director for Middle East and Central Asia, has said during the today's press-conference dedicated to the results of his to Azerbaijan that the Fund had proposed to introduce the rise in the tariffs simultaneously with taking additional auxiliary measures - setting up the functional system of the address aid, improvement of corporative management in public utilities and housing sector enterprises and facilities, which were to gain additional revenues from the increase in the prices on energy carriers.

The Head of the IMF mission considers that these additional approaches should be used to improve the quality of services rendered by these enterprises and facilities.

The IMF mission and the Azerbaijani Government also discussed the necessity on detection of those who particularly need address aid. The Government also intends to improve the mechanism on receipts from payments from public utilities and address use of these funds.

According to Mr. Kramarenko, the Government will take necessary measures to supervise how public utilities enterprises timely pays for deliveries of energy carriers, as well as control their tax allotments to the State Budget.
