Azerbaijan, Baku / corr. Trend I.Khalilova / The Chairman of the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan (SCC), Safar Mehdiyev, said that the SCC expects to, within a month, agree up on the proposals on transition to four-level differentiated tariff system. He considers that delays should not be in agreeing up on the proposals and the new tariff system will come into force in the near future. "Decreasing the number of the customs duties will simplify the activities of the business people," Mehdiyev said. Large part of the commodities (raw materials and equipments) will be liable to tax with zero tariffs. It deals with commodities (especially 84 and 85 groups), which according to the order of the Cabinet of Ministers are subjected to the VAT with zero tariffs. According to Mehdiyev, these commodities make up 10-15% of the importation into the Republic. Since 2001 tariffs have been functioning in the Republic in 0%, 0,5%, 1%, 3%, 5% 10% and 15%. As a result of changes, tariffs will remain in 0%, 5%, 10% and 15%.
