Volkswagen Phaeton may return to U.S. market

( Autoinsidernews) - Volkswagen expects reintroduce its Phaeton luxury sedan to the U.S. market, said Volkswagen spokesman Andreas Meurer during an interview with Bloomberg News. Volkswagen Group CEO Dr. Martin Winterkorn has also stated that VW will only be successful with a product, if it is sold worldwide.

Volkswagen's previous CEO, Bernd Pischetsrieder, pulled the Phaeton out of the U.S. market in late 2005 due to poor marketing, which led to poor sales. Meurer said the Phaeton would be reintroduced when the next version goes on sale worldwide.

Adrian Hallmark, the Executive Vice President of the brand's North American unit, said VW expects its U.S. operations to break even in 2009. He said sales in 2007 would be "flat", as the company focuses on new models for 2008 and 2009.
