Baku Steel Company Cuts its Staff
Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr S. Babayeva / Ali Askeri, the vice-president of the Baku Steel Company (BSC), the largest metallurgy enterprise in Azerbaijan, reported that the company cut its staff. The current number of the employees is 1,800, whilst the previous figure made up 2,000 persons.
Askari stated that the cut was a necessary measure, as the enterprise does not operate at full capacity due to shortage in raw metal. The volume of the raw metal utilized at the enterprise makes up 0,800 tones, while the necessary amount is 1,400 tones.
"Production at the plant was suspended at the beginning of the year and some employees were sent on paid leave. However, the necessity in cutting the staff arose afterwards," Askary said.
The vice-president added that the current amount of raw metal at the enterprise will enable to proceed with the production by April. Collection of metal is in progress.
