Head of State Standardization Agency Says Installation of Centre for Etalons (Standards) in Azerbaijan is of Extreme Importance
Azerbaijan, Baku/ Trend , corr. S. Babayeva/ Ramiz Hassanov, the Director of the State Agency for Standardization, Metrology and Patents said during today's meting with companies of the Caspian Integration and Business Club (CIBC) that the State Agency is viewing the possibility of purchasing new etalons (standards).
The forthcoming etalons (standards) will be bought especially for "Centre for Etalons (Standards)" to be installed in Azerbaijan soon. To date, nine etalons (standards) have been bought and delivered to the country. The etalons worth of almost $400.000 are considered for measuring pressure and weight. The State Agency is expected to acquire some 50 such etalons (standards) within the next five years under the State Programme on Installation and Development of "Centre for Etalons" (Standards) in the country.
"We are not buying all available etalons. We buy only those which Azerbaijan needs. For example, the fields of oil and gas equipment and machinery are of a great importance to us," said Mr Hassanov.
Mr Hassanov considers that the introduction of such standards in the country and the installation of such a centre are significant for the country, since the favorable investment climate serves to increase the number of foreign investment companies. To determine the compliance of the technical requirements of the measuring instruments, foreign companies apply to foreign countries because neither Azerbaijan nor neighbouring countries have etalons (standards), and that leads to the currency flow-out from the country.
Local companies spend a lot of money on these services in foreign countries. However, if we can found such a centre in the country, these companies will reduce their expenditures 10 times The technical conditions for the construction of the forthcoming centre, which is expected to be launched in May and completed at the end of 2007, are currently under preparation.
