Monitoring Detected No Presence of Bird Flue Virus in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku/ Trend / The State Veterinary Service under the Azerbaijan Agriculture Ministry has today made public the results of the next regular monitoring on prevention of penetration avian influenza to the territory of the country. The conducted monitoring did not detected any presence of bird fleu virus on the territory of Azerbaijan, a message being dissiminated by the State Service says.

Laboratory research and studies were conducted on the basis of pathological materials taken from individuals of wild birds and poultry from different poultry farms and houses.

The Monitoring was conducted on the territories with the likebility of temporary resettlement of migrant birds - the Pirallahi Irland, Absheron Penisnsula, territories of the national parks and reserves, along the Caspian Sea littoral zone by a Special Commision, consisting of specialists of the Veterinary Service, Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, Health Ministry, Hunters' Society, and Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences Sciences.

The next regular monitoring is expected to be held on May 21, 2007.

Notably, since April 2006 and up to date, over 10 monitorings have been conducted on the territory of the country. None of these monitorings has detected the presence of bird flue in any Azerbaijani region.

Despite all that, the frontier veterinary points of the country is still working in medium security, and the ban on hunting on, selling of, an eating of wild bird still remains in force.
