Transport Ministry Announces Forecasts on Investments for Road Development

Azerbaijan, Baku / corr. Trend I.Khalilova / The Deputy Transport Ministry of Azerbaijan, Musa Panahov, said on 16 May that the Government of Azerbaijan plans to invest nearly $400mln into the development of roads of national and international importance. "Presently transportation is one of the developing sectors of the economy and the Government pays special attention to finance construction/ repair measures for roads. Azerbaijan's transport sector already has a certain niche in the international transport sector," the Deputy Minister said. Azerbaijan will allocate $200mln for the construction of the Georgian section of Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway.

"Investments will also be allocated to improve railway quality. For this purpose, a State Railway Improvement Program has been devised," Panahov said.
