Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend I.Khalilova / The Azerbaijan Government informed the World Trade Organization (WTO) Secretariat on the necessity of the appointment of the date of the 5th round of talks on Azerbaijan's entrance to the WTO no later than June. The negotiation group on Azerbaijan's entrance to the WTO announced that they unwilling to postpone the talks, because over a year has passed since the previous talks and appropriate documents have been developed in this period to discuss with the WTO member-countries," the government announced.

The busy schedule of this international organization is linked with the multilateral negotiations of the WTO regarding liberalization of the world trade ( Doha round) and talks with Ukraine on its membership, which is reaching the final stage.

Azerbaijan does not participate in the negotiations of the Doha round, as the country has been represented in the WTO as a monitor since 1997.

The purpose of the negotiations is to liquidate export subsidies in developed countries and to decrease the import taxes in the countries under development.

Azerbaijan is going to join the WTO as a developing country. Azerbaijan is free of such high import taxes and export subsidies. The country aims to define the maximum limit for importing agriculture and industry products. The maximum limit for agriculture products is proposed as 50-80%. Tariffs on industry products are more acceptable. Maximum custom is proposed as 30-50%.
