Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr I. Khalilova / The Azerbaijani Ministry of Economic Development and the Ministry of Transport have coordinated the positions on reconsideration of the tariffs for railway transportation. Introduction of competitive tariffs that will be top in the country was considered.

The organizations engaged in transportation of goods will regulate their own tariffs, which must not exceed the ones established by the Council on Tariffs.

The raise of railway tariffs was not discussed at the latest meeting of the Council. According to the chairman of the Council, Minister for Economic Development, Heydar Babayev, tariffs in this field should be economically valid. For this purpose the tariffs of foreign countries must be studied.

"We are interested in the talks with Georgia and Turkey suggesting Azerbaijan to become a corridor. For this reason we have to be very prudent while forming tariff policy.

The railroad administration suggested raising the tariffs for railroad transportation in January, 2006 due to increase in tariffs for diesel oil and fuel oil. However, the suggestion was declined by the Council.

The issue gained urgency after the rise in prices on 8 January, 2007. The price for А-95 motor-car petrol increased by AZN 0.6, for А-92 and А-80 by AZN 0.55, diesel fuel by AZN 0.45. The price for 1 KW per hour of energy rose by AZN 0.6.
