WB Offers Technical Assistance to Process Budget in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend I.Khalilova / Kristos Kostopulos, a World Bank (WB) senior specialist, will pay a visit to Azerbaijan within the WB framework to provide technical assistance in implementing the budget in Azerbaijan. Kostopulos announced that the assistance provided will cover all aspects within the development of the budget.

This is the first technical assistance provided by the WB in 2007. Andrey Strozhok has been appointed as the WB consultant to implement the project. Within the framework of the technical assistance, co-ordination of all the state departments involved in the development of the budget is ensured. These are the National Bank of Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Economic Development. Models proposed by the consultants on the basis of indices needed for the formation of the budget will enable the budget expenses to be projected correctly in line with inflation. The Finance Ministry attributes this assistance as being very effective in that it will enable the work of state departments involved in the development of budget forecasts to be systematic.

The 2008 public budget forecasts have been developed and submitted to the Government with the assistance of WB experts.
