SECO to Offer Assistance to Azerbaijan in the conduct of Intellectual Property System in line with WTO

Azerbaijan, Baku / corr. Trend I.Khalilova / Mahmoud Mamadguliyev the Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister, stated that the Azerbaijan Government plans to define its directions to obtain technical assurance within the framework of Azerbaijan's entrance to the World Trade Organization (WTO).

In the near future, the Swiss State Secretariat on Economic Issues, SECO, is expected to offer technical assistance to bring the intellectual property system in line with WTO standards. It mostly concerns the industrial property, patents and trade marks.

In accordance with the agreement with SECO, technical assistance in this direction will begin in 2007. The Initial discussions with the SECO representatives have been held in Baku and they have submitted an action plan which envisages an adaptation to protect intellectual property rights to world standards through the analysis of legislation and training.

Along with Germany, United States and Switzerland, other countries are also interested in assisting Azerbaijan. Possible areas of cooperation will be determined in the future, he added.
