Azerbaijan May Join WTO in Next Two Years: US Expert

Azerbaijan, Baku / corr. Trend U.Ismaylova / The President of the US consulting company, Economic Integration Forum, Farhad Yovakim, said on 4 June at the round table "Problems of Azerbaijan's Entry to the WTO" organized by the Confederation of Entrepreneurs of Azerbaijan that Azerbaijan may join the ranks of the World Trade Organization (WTO) in the next two years.

Yovakim is an economic expert who arrived in Baku in line with the USAID's project to hold monitoring of work of the Government on entrance into the WTO. The cost of the project is $4 mln.

Since 1997 Azerbaijan has been appealing to the WTO to become a member of the organization. Presently Azerbaijan is a WTO observant country.

According to Yovakim, Azerbaijan is currently carrying out active works to join the WTO and is being seriously assessed by the organization and the US who is interested in Azerbaijan's entrance into the WTO.

The WTO was established on 1 January 1995.
