Azerbaijan Intends to Accelerate Process Entrance to WTO: Minister

Azerbaijan, Baku / corr. Trend I.Khalilova / The State Commission on Azerbaijan's entrance into the World Trade Organization (WTO) decided to accelerate the implementation of the measures.

The Chairman of the Commission, Minister of Economic Development of Azerbaijan, Heydar Babayev, offered at the Commission's meeting to accelerate the co-ordination of the activities between the State bodies and establish sub-commissions on tariffs, services, subsidies and legislation.

" Azerbaijan's position is clear. The President and Prime Minister of the Country support the necessity to join the WTO soon and charged the State Commission to accelerate the work in this regard," Babayev said. According to him, the important factor in accelerating the entrance to the WTO is to bring the national legislations into conformity with the requirements of the WTO.

However, the Minister considers that there are not special progresses in this regard. It is expected to make amendments and devise new 39 normative-legal acts. Of them, two has lost their legal force and replaced with new ones. Generally 38 normative-legal acts are planned to be submitted to the Parliament of Azerbaijan. According to the Minister, it will accelerate resuming the legislation.

Presently works have been completed on two normative acts and they have been submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers of Azerbaijan.

In addition, the Head of the negotiation group on Azerbaijan's entrance into the WTO, Mahmud Mammadguliyev, spoke of the level of the talks with the WTO member-countries.
