Presidents of BSEC to Sign Cooperation Agreement

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr I. Khalilova / A summit dedicated to the 15th Anniversary of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) will be held in Istanbul on 25 June, the President of the Azerbaijan Export and Investment Promotion Fund (AZPROMO), Emil Majidov, reported.

An agreement on cooperation is expected to be signed within the framework of the meeting. According to Majidov, the agreement provides for regional development, stimulation of projects, and creation of a favourable environment.

Common issues related to the activities of the organization and possible changes intended to increase the organization's effectiveness will be reviewed.

Proposals to further the organization's development include elimination of obstacles and disadvantages in the BSEC Charter and solutions of procedure-related issues that impede development of the organization.

Azerbaijan has suggested increasing of the role of the BSEC Secretariat, in particular of the Secretary General, as well as extending the status of senior officials, enabling them to view issues that are currently only under for the consideration of Foreign Ministers. Consensus should be restricted, as sometimes it leads to braking.

In April 2007 the BSEC Chairmanship was handed over from Serbia to Turkey.
