Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend U.Ismayilova / Eyyub Huseynov, the Chairman of the Azerbaijani Union of Independent Consumers, stated on the 22nd of June that over 25% of food products at the foodstuff market of Baku and 40% in Ganja fall short of quality standards.

Huseynov stated that 50% of alcoholic drinks at the foodstuff market falls short of the necessary quality standards, while the consumption period of 80% of them is expired and 95% do not contain data on an expiration date.

Huseynov noted that with respect to improve the quality of foodstuff within the consideration of international standards, the Union of Independent Consumers presented to the Government a proposal on inducing changes to the Law on Foodstuff, dated the 18th of November 1999.

The Azerbaijani Union of Independent Consumers, a member of the World Food Organization, has been functioning since 1997.
