Azerbaijan and Russia Eager to Support Businessmen’s Proposals on Establishment of Trade and Economic Business Areas

Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend U.Ismayilova / The 11th session of the Azerbaijani-Russian intergovernmental commission on economic operations will be held in September - October 2007. The decision was adopted at the first international conference "Trade-economic and scientific-technical cooperation between Azerbaijan and Russia: Status and Prospects" held in Baku on 28 June. Attending the forum are 100 representatives from ministries and business circles of the two countries.

During the event they noted that within the framework of a joint intergovernmental commission it is necessary to set up work for an actual program on long-term economic cooperation between the two countries in the period to 2010. It is also necessary to support proposals by entrepreneurs of Azerbaijan and Russia on the establishment of permanent existing trade and economic business venues in Baku and Moscow intended to become wholesale trade centres, places for conducting meetings and conclusion of contracts.

In January to April 2007 goods turnover between Azerbaijan and Russia rose 8.5% compared to 2006. It confirms the dynamic of interactions between the two countries, opportunities for implementation of tasks set for an increase of bilateral goods turnover to $2bln.

A resolution will be signed at the end of the international conference.
