CIP Developing Project for Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr S. Babayeva / The visit to Baku of the representative of the International Potato Center (Centro Internacional de la Papa) of Central Asia and Caucasus, Karli Carlo, has concluded, according to the Scientific-Agrarian Centre of the Azerbaijani Agriculture Ministry.

During his visit he met with the head of the Scientific-Agrarian Centre, Asad Musayev, held discussions with the experts of Vegetable-Growing Scientific Research Institute, presented the activities of the organization, visited Gadabay region in order to become familiar with the local potato species and discussed prospects for further development of relationships.

According to the Centre, CIP is developing a project to select a new species of potato for Azerbaijan, conducive to all external elements, including different diseases.

The project will be developed by the end of 2007 and will be presented to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) for their consideration. Should the project be approved by the organization, the search for financial sources will then take place.
