Minister Assures Cooperation between Georgia & Kazakhstan Important for Caucasus & Central Asia

Arynova / "Cooperation between Georgia and Kazakhstan is important not only for our countries, but also for our regions which are the Caucasus and Central Asia", the Georgian Economic Development Minister, Georgiy Arveladze, stated on 2 July at a business forum in Astana, Kazakhstan.

"Of key importance is deepening our contacts in the energy and transport sectors. In connection to this great importance is given to trilateral cooperation between Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Georgia aimed at coordinated policy on development of the transport infrastructure, as well as improvement of competitiveness of supplementary freight transported through the routes going via our countries," Arveladze said.

He noted that Georgia was taking active steps in order to become a link between Kazakhstan and Europe.

"We consider Kazakhstan as the most important partner in large international projects such as linking the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline, the construction of a grain terminal in Poty port, an oil-refining plant in Batumi and joining of the project on the new railroad linking Baku-Tbilisi-Kars," he said.

According to Arveladze, Georgia pays great importance to further development of cooperation in agriculture and tourism.

"Another field attractive for investment is the banking sector. Georgia is the country most open for investments," the Minster said.
