Azerbaijan, Baku / corr. Trend / The expansion of cooperation with the inter-governmental organization Pour Les Transports (OTIF) on Azerbaijan's membership with the organization became an issue for discussion during the meeting between Musa Panahov, the Azerbaijani Deputy Transport Minister, and Andre Michel, the head of the International Union of Railways (UIC) delegation. OTIF offered Azerbaijan, having regional transport potential, to join the Convention Concerning International Carriage by Rail (COTIF).

The UIC expressed a desire to render assistance in the implementation of training programs for facilitating the use of new rules concerning joining COTIF and OTIF conventions.

The necessity in ratification of the convention and membership in OTIF appears after full-scale work done on transport passages via Azerbaijan, and especially after the project's implementation of the railway on the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars routes.

According to representatives of Azerbaijani Transport Ministry, the final decision on the issue will be adopted after considering the issue with ministries and state departments. Membership to OTIF most likely means changes to the country's legislation.
