Baku-Tbilisi-Kars Railway to Connect  Georgia with  Europe : Georgian Minister

Georgia, Tbilisi / corr. Trend N.Kirtzkhalia / The Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway will offer entirely new opportunities for Georgia. Giorgi Arveladze, the Georgian Minister for Economic Development, stated that this project will connect Georgia with Europe.

The construction of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway route has been co-ordinated amongst the governments of Georgia, Azerbaijan and Turkey. To construct its section of the railway, Georgia will receive a credit from the International Bank of Azerbaijan in the amount of $220mln.

The minister stated that the construction of the railway will commence around the third quarter. "The construction will begin shortly and this will be an important project for the region and Georgia," the minister emphasized. Following the implementation of the project, new cargo will be attracted from the East, China, as well as the North. "The attraction and an increase in cargo will primarily promote the development of the region, opening up new jobs and employment," Arveladze noted.

A meeting of the working group on this issue will be held on 18-19 July.
