Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr.S.Babayeva / The Azerbaijani State Veterinary Service at the Agriculture Ministry is holding inspections to try to find brucellosis among cattle in the regions.

The State Service has reported that veterinarians are taking blood samples from cattle and examining the samples in laboratories.

Inspections have already been carried out in Bilasuvar, Gazakh, Tovuz, and Akstafa regions. Currently an examination is being held in Imishli. Previous laboratory tests revealed that brucellosis was mainly spread among horned cattle.

"We announced that 2007 is the year to combat brucellosis. We will try to eliminate the disease," the State Service said.

Brucellosis is an infectious disease known as "contagious abortion" and "Bangs disease"; symptoms include fever and weakened reticuloendothelial, vascular, and nervous systems.

There are three types of brucellosis; carriers are people, brucellosis by horn cattle and pig brucellosis.

The main source of the infection for people is horned cattle and pigs.
