South Korea Stands Ready to Invest $3.5bln in Azerbaijan’s Transport Sector

Azerbaijan, Baku /corr. Trend I.Khalilova / The Governments of Azerbaijan and South Korea outlined priorities regarding economic cooperation.

Azerbaijan's Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Mikail Jabbarov, said on 27 August during a joint business-forum in Baku that the interests will be discussed today by the forum's sub-committees on agriculture, communications, transport, industry, construction and trade and investments.

"The sub-committees will continue discussing projects regarding agro-industrial complex, online trade, machine-building, investments in establishment of joint ventures, establishment of free economic zones, industrial towns, energy, renewable energy sources, reconstruction of Baku ring road, Baku port, construction of the shipbuilding plant and the clean-up of oil-polluted lands in the Absheron peninsula. Plans will be outlined for the next few years," he said.

South Korea's Deputy Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy, Li Jae Hun, said during the forum that Korea is willing to invest $3.5bln in the transport sector of Azerbaijan, $400mln in the relocationof Baku Port and the construction of a shipbuilding plant.

The Head of Azerbaijani Economic Development Ministry's Department for Investment Policy, Asker Alekperov, said that transport projects, including the construction of a high speed railway, are still being discussed.
