Over 90 Construction Companies to be Inspected in Baku: Head of Labor Inspectorate

Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend U.Ismayilova / The Labor Inspectorate at the Azerbaijani Ministry of Labor and Social Security, will carry out wide spread checks at construction facilities, Nabi Shukurlu, the head of the Labor Inspectorate, said on 3 September.

"There are 92 construction companies in Baku, whereas the number of companies operating in the regions will be determined during the check," Shukurlu said.

On 28 August Fizuli Alakbarov, the Azerbaijani Minister for Labor and Social Security, said that after the collapse of a 16-storey building in Baku he held a meeting with employees of the inspectorate to state his dissatisfaction with the activities of the Inspectorate.

"The inspectorate should carry out checks of construction workers not only during their probation period, but also after its expiration," the minister stated at the meeting.

Shukurlu said that the Inspectorate will carry out checks after the expiration of their probation periods.

"The Inspectorate will examine the observation of technical safety regulations, existence of labor contracts and special equipment for construction work at all construction facilities," he said.

Employees of the inspectorate will carry out the inspections over 5-7 days.

As of last information from the scene of the building collapse in Baku, 15 people died. According to initial reports, the use of poor-quality construction materials and gross violation of technical safety guidelines caused the collapse of the building.
