Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend S.Aliyev / The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) has transferred approximately $40mln to companies who are involved in the improvement of the ecological situation and re-cultivation and treatment of land in oil and gas fields, Agamahmud Sirajov, head of the Environmental Protection and Labor Department of SOCAR, said last weekend.
According Sirajov, a total of $670mln has been allocated for the resolution of the ecological problems of SOCAR for 2006 - 2010.
Sirajov said that this year a tremendous amount of work has been done at the old onshore oil field Bibiheybat. Two reservoirs with the capacity of 1,000 cu m each have been built and the oil produced will be transported by a different method.
Work will continue until next year. According to geologists' calculations, reserves of the field are estimated at 10mln tons, and there are no plans to cease production here.
