Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend S. Aliyev / The Production Association Azgaznagl (Aztransgaz) of Azerigaz Joint-Stock Company is investigating its own main and transport gas pipelines for their following reconstruction, Zaman Chelyabiyev, the head of Aztransgaz said on 10 October.

According to Chalyabiyev, the Russian company Transkor was contracted for this work.

Presently, Azgaznagl has nearly 3,500km in pipelines, nine compressor stations and 121 distributing stations. After determination of the volume of the necessary work their evaluation will be held.

The main gas pipelines, exploited in gas transportation in Azerbaijan were built between 1970 and 1980. Presently their refurbishment is proving necessary. Nearly 25% of gas pipelines work at a lower discharge capacity due to technical reasons, Chelyabiyev said.

Traskor company caries out non-contact repairs of pipeline sections suffering from defects in metal or welding connections through technological defects, mechanical damages, or inside or surface corrosion, stopping further destructive danger that may occur as a result of pipeline sagging, landslides, locations of sharp drops of pipeline discharge capacity (as a result of paraffin layers), or the location of unsanctioned cuts, etc.
