Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend S.Aliyeva / Azerbaijan and Iran came to an agreement on building of a boundary power station on the Araz river in Ordubad District of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, Azerbaijan, Marlen Asgarov, the Vice President of Azerenerjy company, said on 22 October.

"By the end of February 2008 Azerbaijan will develop feasibility study of the new station," Asgarov said. The project envisages building of two power stations (one in Azerbaijan and another in Iran) on the bordering Araz River in Ordubad.

Azerbaijan plans to build this power station with the capacity of more than 35 MW.

Earlier, Azerbaijan planned to build a 45MW station, but Iran could not made this. Then it was decided that even if Iran cannot build a power station with equal capacity, Azerbaijan would build it on its side. The final capacity of the power station on the Azerbaijani territory will be defined after the development of its feasibility study.

The water recourses of the river will be used on parity basis. The stations will be of derivation type. They will be located on the derivative arms of the river and establishment of reservoir is not scheduled. The river water will not be used for other needs and will be thrown to the river again.
