Azerbaijan May to Sign New Contract on Electric Energy Supply from Russia

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. S.Aliyev / Azerbaijan and Russia may sign a contract on purchase and sale of electric energy , if the Russian Inter RAO UES CJSC to be re-organized to which the Azerbaijani Azerenergy company signed a contact, Marlen Askarov, the vice-president of Azerenergy, said.

The shareholders of RAO UES Russia voted for re-organization of the monopoly by summer 2008. Some 95% of shareholders voted for re-organization and 3% voted against. Others abstain from voting.

Askarov said to consider the contract on mutual electric energy supply.

"Once the body the contract signed with to be annulled then a new agreement should be signed," Askarov said.

In 2007 the import of electric energy from Russia to Azerbaijan was implemented on tariffs in 2006 or 3,636 cent per 1 kilowatt per hour. The purchase fee of supplied Azerbaijani electric energy to Russia increased by 1.8 cent.
