Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr I. Khalilova / Swiss energy producers are interested in direct purchasing Azerbaijani gas, Azerbaijani Economic Development Minister Heydar Babayev said on 7 November.
"Our infrastructure is developing. Increasing number of alternative pipelines improves the interest for Azerbaijani energy sources," the Minister said.
As these issues are mainly treated by other Ministries, they make the decisions regarding prices and other issues. And the task of the Economic Development Ministry is to deliver the appeals to necessary levels. The Minister ruled out possibility of signing any document on gas supply with Switzerland during the meeting of the Azerbaijani-Swiss inter-parliamentary commission on economic cooperation to take place in Baku on 14 November.
According to Babayev, the memorandum on gas supply was signed with Greece. Italy is also interested in transiting the fuel through Greece.
" Azerbaijan is in the centre of attention not only as a producer but also as a single transit country in the region. We are interested in all alternative energy sources, including NABUCCO, Odessa-Brody-Plotsk," he said.
The Minister released the plans on turning Azerbaijan into an electric energy exporter in neat future, as it has a favourable market for that.
